FAQs
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ON EACH PROJECT TEAM?
We’ll generally have 5-6 consultants and 2 project managers on each team, based on project scope and interest.
WHAT DOES SEAB LOOK FOR IN AN APPLICANT?
Genuinely all we want to see at SEAB is a demonstrated interest in sustainability and entrepreneurship, and a strong commitment to learning about the ESG space. We’re not looking to be cutthroat or competitive in any way, and believe all applicants will grow and build skills through the consulting process. Just show us you’re interesting and chill :)
HOW IS SEAB DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CLUBS ON CAMPUS? WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE?
There are numerous consulting, investment, and sustainability focused clubs at Berkeley. However, these tend to act as separate entities — they rarely consider the (increasingly important) intersections of these specific spaces. For this reason, we want to focus our time on providing students with skills to invest responsibly and become a sustainable entrepreneur, bridging these fields of work. We want Berkeley students to be able to consider profit and sustainability in tandem, actively making an impact in related ESG spheres in their post-college careers.
HOW IS SEAB’S CULTURE?
SEAB is a newer club on campus, therefore it’s probably one of the most close-knit, open, ready-to-grow communities you could enter. SEAB members are united by an interest in sustainability and a desire to pursue various forms of entrepreneurship, but those interests make for a widely diverse group. We’re also just close friends who enjoy spending time together, and we’re all super excited to meet our new members.
WHAT KIND OF OTHER OPPORTUNITIES DO I GET FROM SEAB?
There are several career building opportunities as well as personal/professional development initiatives and you get great contacts from the clients you work with. We host bootcamps, workshops, internal networking events, info-sessions, and mentorship opportunities — particularly focused on sustainability and VC-focused careers, which can be an extremely valuable way for SEAB members to break into diverse post-college careers.
DO I NEED PREVIOUS CONSULTING EXPERIENCE?
Most projects are not technical, so no prior consulting experience is necessary. We also have a bootcamp in place to onboard consultants on how to go about projects and what skills they need. The main thing we need is a genuine interest in sustainability, commitment to the work we do, and good communication skills. We actively look for students that can demonstrate this.
WHAT DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
The interview process consists of filling out an application with questions, followed by a semi-casual behavioral interview, ending with a Case Interview.
WHAT DOES A BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEW LOOK LIKE?
The behavioral interview will consist of under 10 questions to get to know your personality, interest in sustainability, and commitment to the community. These questions are not meant to test your technical knowledge, but more to gauge your interest, thought process, and commitment to SEAB. You don’t have to prepare much for the interview, just be ready to talk about yourself and your interests!
WHEN/WHERE ARE MEETINGS HELD, WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T ATTEND?
We have general meetings on either Wednesdays or Thursday 7-8:30pm (likely). For the team meetings, that will be dependent on each project team, and will be decided based on your team’s availability!
WHO ARE OUR CLIENTS THIS SEMESTER? WHAT ARE OUR PROJECTS ABOUT?
Projects will be revealed on welcome night.
The projects are centered around the areas of green tech, carbon management, and sustainable agriculture.
WHAT'S THE WORKLOAD LIKE? HOW MANY HOURS OF COMMITMENT PER WEEK?
Approximately 5-6 hours per week including project meeting times and general club meetings. Hours may vary depending on how fast you get your tasks for the project done, but the workload is definitely manageable. Hours may surpass this range during the deliverable season (six weeks into the project and the end of the semester).
DO WE NEED TO ATTEND BOTH INFO SESSIONS OR JUST ONE?
You only need to attend one info session since the content is repeated! However, feel free to attend more and get to know our members. If you can’t make it and would like to see the slides, fill out the interest form and we will send you the slides.
